Cruising Boat
This 28' 6" power boat was built in the winter of 2002/03 in 9 months and launched in September 2003.It was designed by Mike Kiefer and designer Ken Workinger of Tiara Yachts in Holland,Michigan. The boat is owned by Mike and Sue Kiefer as their Great Lakes cruising boat. It is a composite boat- wood covered with fiberglass with an Awlgrip paint job. The boat marries the light weight (3000#) of wood with the easy maintenance of fiberglass. It really is the best of both worlds and has proven to be an able, nimble, quick as well as trailerable cruising boat. In the off season she lives in a boathouse next to the boatshop. The boat is strip planked and all the wood in the boat is sassafras. The wheelhouse and cuddy are marine plywood as well as the decks and roofs. The skeg is fir covered with kevlar set in epoxy. West System Epoxy was used exclusively for the entire boat. The four stroke outboard has been fuel efficient, quiet and trouble free. The boat planes at 12 mph and tops out at 27 mph. Typical cruising speeds are 15- 20mph with a full load. Spartina wanders at will anywhere in the Great Lakes every summer.
