The Superior Dinghy

The Superior dinghy is a high quality, durable wood dinghy that will compliment any fine yacht. Great Lakes Boat building Co. is building this classic dinghy using the best of modern materials yet retaining traditional, lapstrake construction and appearance with low maintenance.

The Superior dinghy is offered in 8', 10' and 12' lengths for oar and sail. Each size boat can be rowed, sailed or powered with a 1 - 2 hp outboard engine. These dinghy's row with ease, sail smartly and power respectably for their size.

The hull shape for all the boats is full, deep and easily driven. All tow well owing to the skeg and light weight. They track well and are easily managed with davits or a slifting boom.

Each dinghy comes equipped with one pair of oars, oarlocks, and towing ring. Sailing models have a daggerboard, rudder, spars and sail. All fastenings are either bronze or stainless and are suitable for either fresh or salt water.

Each dinghy is planked with mahogany, marine plywood glued together with epoxy glue so they will not leak. Stem, keel, transom and seats are either Michigan sassafras or Honduras mahogany. Oars and spars are spruce. Sails are dacron and lines are yacht braid. The dinghys can be all varnished or varnished in and painted out. Six coats of varnish protect the wood and ordinary will keep them looking good for many years.

A list of options is available to semi-customize the boats to different situations. Please call the builder to discuss your requirements.
Canvas covers are highly recommended to protect the boat from sun and rain. This is the best way to keep the boat in good condition.

These dinghys look like museum pieces but are built for everyday use.
